Personal Struggles, we ALL have them. How to DEAL and move on.

Hi there! I know we ALL go through some tough times. I recently had a day like that myself. I don't know about you, but for me it usually centers around some type of special event. Well, I was having a really relaxing day, went and got my nails and toes done, got a dark spray tan, went home, was doing my hair and makeup, then the most important thing, what to wear? I was really excited because I had a few new dresses that I hadn't had an event to wear them to yet! I slipped on dress #1 and took a look in the mirror on my closet door. I will preface the situation with this, these mirror NEVER make anyone look good. They are in a hallway so you have to stand very close to them, and can't take more than a step back to get a really good look at what you are wearing. Well, the dress fit fine. But I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. Not to worry, I had a few more options.

After trying on almost a full wardrobe of dresses, I was just disgusted and discouraged by what I saw in the mirror. I was so frustrated that I started crying. I didn't see anything that fit me the way I wanted. I even texted a friend that I was having a really hard time. My friend told me to just pick out something comfortable to wear and get to my event! So I grabbed my trusty skinny jeans, a cute black sweater, wiped away my tears, touched up my makeup and got going.

This got me to thinking. What was it that I didn't like? Was it how the clothes fit? Was it how my body looked? I have been working really hard in the weight room and making considerable gains on almost all of my lifts. I don't weigh myself. I eat pretty clean, and have been getting lots of rest and sticking to my plan. After talking to someone close to me, I realized that I have never been this muscular, and that I wasn't used to seeing myself like this. That causes my clothes to fit differently. It isn't a bad thing, it is just something different than what I am used to.

When you are having a tough day, when things aren't fitting right, don't get discouraged! Things aren't as bad as they seem in that moment. We all have insecurities, no matter how much we love our lives, our bodies, etc. No one is immune from this. What we do with it is the important thing. Getting down on ourselves and perpetuating negative self talk isn't going to help get us anywhere. Recognizing that things aren't always going to go our way, and picking ourselves back up, and remembering where we are going is a lot more productive.

The next day I was back in the gym. I got in a lift and cardio. I payed more attention to how much I was lifting, and was surprised and thankful for that! I workout to be strong, healthy and happy. I want to take very good care of this one body that I have been given, for it is the ultimate gift. It is the vehicle in which I experience life.

So, next time this happens to you, don't let it get you down! Cry it out if you need to, but remember where you came from, and where you are in your journey. Be thankful for and LOVE your body. As it is. Without it, you wouldn't be here. Have an attitude of gratitude!
